Day 4 - Wednesday, March 4th: A drive

Wednesday, we woke to more rain, it rained all night, everything got a good rinse.

We slept much better than expected. I would only slide out of bed until my feet hit the wall, in this case it is good to be on the outside of the bed. I am not sure how June stayed in bed.

Boondocking

This is our parking spot, the picture really doesn't show how off level we were. The front tires are off the ground and we are no where close to level.

We hit the road around 07:30, it was in the 40's and raining. As we moved south it got warmer and warmer.....by Tennessee it was in the 70's.

We planned to drive an hour then stop for breakfast, showers, etc., but I decided to skip BF and drive until we needed fuel. We stopped about 11:00 got fuel then went to a rest area, had lunch and showered....we were a bit like fish..it was going on 3 days.

The drive in general was ok but not without heart stopping moments.

At one point I could see smoke in the road, and when I got to it apparently a car in the opposite lane had just hit the Jersey barrier hard enough to knock a light pole into our lane. I braked hard got around the pole but ran over the street light. The only damage was it knocked off one of my leveler pads, but it was still hanging by a thread when we stopped, lucky. I know when I watch NASCAR the drivers say they drive for the smoke because the wreck will clear before you get there, in this case that light pole wasn't going anywhere.

For the second time we had a car nearly clip us as he/she drove like an idiot through traffic. The dash cam got him, but it was much closer in real life!

We arrived at the CB in West Memphis, AR around 17:00. We will go to bed early and eat breakfast at CB and head for Texas tomorrow.

  2. We slept pretty well considering the circumstances. It was a long travel day with crazy drivers. All is well that ends well.
